Mujeres sin Cuello, a play by the awarded playwright Carlos Ivan Córdova, and directed by Ginés Cruz, was premiered on August 15th, 2014, at the Hellenic Cultural Center, in Mexico City.It featured the actresses Mahalat Sánchez and Patricia Yañez.

Told in real time, Mujeres sin Cuello (Spanish for “Neckless Women”) is a dialogue between a teenager and her nurse. The teenager doesn't have legs neither have arms. They are in the attic, far from the sight of the guests, and the guest are enjoying a noisy party held by the teenager´s parents, downstairs. The girl is a very difficult person, and the nurse… the nurse has to be very patient.

Carlos Iván Córdova won the National Dramaturgy Award for this theatrical script in 2013, and it has been staged in different states in Mexico and with different casts.

Singer Michelle Avila

The original music composed for this play gets closer to sound art. It features the sounds and noises that are mentioned and developed on the dialogue itself: flies buzzing around, the dance music from the party in the background, doors opening and closing, a telephone and an electric storm. Alongside this soundscapes, there is music, sometimes made with samples of string quartets, and also two theme songs featuring the singer Michele Avila.

For the last track of the soundtrack, Chimi Jo prepared a relaxing mix, intended to cool sown all the tension from the narrative. This track was ment to be part of the play, but in the end we decided to play it after the applause, for the moment when the audience leaves. The track is called Neckless Dreams, and it features samples from a very famous string quartet. Can you point it out?:

Yours,

Chimi Jo.
