7 Facts that you should know about Strom Stimme.

With samples of toys and toy instruments, Strom Stimme compiles a colorful set of dreamy, playful tracks flirting with ambient, chillwave, experimental, and EDM. It consists of 11 tracks that seem to come from very different universes, yet share many things in common. The starting point was the idea of sampling sounds from all kinds of toys, including toy instruments and even pet toys, all carefully curated and put together on the sequencer in many different ways.

1. The music is the result of a grant.

Strom Stimme, is the result of a Young Creators grant (Jovenes Creadores, FONCA 2014), which Chimi Jo received, under the category of Electronic Music. Here is a nice pic of Chimi Jo with his fellow colleagues, who of course, happen to be renowned musicians. It was taken during one of the Art conventions in Guanajuato, Mexico, February, 2014.

2. The album is astronomical.

Strom Stimme was first released as a digital download on Bandcamp on January 23rd, 2016, date which, according to NASA, corresponds with the first Full Moon of that year. And it´s premiere was an event planned to be part of a crowdfunding campaign.

3. The CD was crowdfunded.

The goal of the campaign was to finance the physical edition on Compact Disc, which was a succes thanks to the loving support of more than 70 crowdfunders from Mexico and the US, at the Mexican version of kickstarter.com, fondeadora.mx wich by the way, was recently taken over by the first one. You can still visit the page of that campaign, by simply clicking on the screenshot:

4. It features samples from a rubber duck, which is a toy for dogs.

No further comments. Just the pic, of course (right and left angles for a better appreciation).

5. More than a 100 toys and objects were sampled

Once the creative process of making the music started, Chimi Jo searched everywhere for the most interesting toys and objects, int terms of sound and noise. After sampling all of them (more than a hundred) Chimi Jo selected the best of the best to be featured in this albums. However, some very interesting sounds are wating to be used in future crazy-ChimiJo-an-electro-music creations.

You can visit my virtual gallery of all the instruments used, at my instrumentonomy.

6. The Sound of Electricity

Strom Stimme is a made up title, inspired on the German language. It can be interpreted in many ways, like, Electricity´s Voice, or The Sound of Electricity. It can also mean The Current Sound. In the end there is no ultimate meaning, and this is something that also happens with the album art. Some see it as circuits, some see it as a Mayan codex. What do you see?

7. There´s an Archive with plenty of Bonus tracks...

Oh yeah. The original project included around 30 tracks, which means more than two hours of music. It is in my plans to release an Archive version of Strom Stimme, some time in the future, so stay tuned.

So, before leaving, I´ll let you with something to listen to. Needless to say, is that I would love you to share, like, and write your comments at the bottom of this page.

Yours,

Chimi Jo.
